WILLIETTA SHATTUCK
Willietta Shattuck passed away at her home in Valley Township, January 4th, 1939, after suffering terribly for over 9 months with paralysis. After being in Burke Street Hospital, Fort Scott, for six weeks, she was brought home and tenderly cared for by her sisters and her nurse.
She was born December 18, 1890, on a farm near Livermore, Iowa, and in January 1903 came with her parents, William and Elgiva Upham, to the Upham Farm on highway No. 69 near Trading Post, Kansas.
After completing the elementary grades in Swayback she attended Teachers College in Pittsburg, Kansas, and taught school at Brush College, Star Valley, Green Valley, and also one year near Bode, Iowa.
March 19, 1916, she was united in marriage to Clyde Shattuck who survives her.
She was a hard working woman, always kind and loving, faithful in the performance of all her duties, thoughtful of others and wonderfully patient during all her extreme suffering. Often when so weak that her voice faltered, she would repeat the 23rd Psalm, or ask her sister with her to say "I will lie down in green pastures."
