Lydia A. Crowell

Mrs. Lydia Crowell, who has been sick for several weeks, died at the residence of her niece, Mrs. J. W. Wickham, on Monday morning at 10 a.m. Mrs. Crowell has been in the city all winter, for the purpose of sending her granddaughter to the city schools. A few weeks ago when she was taken so seriously ill her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. O. E. Strong, of Silex, Arkansas, came and have been carefully caring for her until she was called from life. Mrs. Crowell was born in New York in 1828. When she was in her sixteenth year she was united in marriage with Chester Crowell at Green Prairie, Wisconsin. There were born to them five children - four daughters, and one son. Two daughters survive their mother - Mrs. Alma Strong of Silex, Arkansas, and Polly Barrick of Kansas City. For a number of years Mr. and Mrs. Chester Crowell were residents of Linn county, Mr. Crowell doing business in Mound City and at Pleasanton, but for twenty-one years Mrs. Crowell's home has been in Arkansas. The funeral services were held in the Baptist church on Tuesday afternoon, led by Rev. Iliff, who had been a personal friend of the family for many years. The remains were interred beside those of her husband in the city cemetery. Mrs. Crowell was a devoted wife, an affectionate mother and a good neighbor. She was well respected by all who knew her. She leaves two daughters, two brothers and one sister, with several grandchildren, to mourn her loss.
