Obituary

In the brightest month of spring when trees are in their full plumage, when the fragrant flowers are sending forth their sweetest perfume, gracefully nodding in the gentle breeze, when gay birds twit and sing their sweetest melody and all nature gives evidence of peace, harmony and joy, yet amidst all these a once happy home is made desolate. A loving companion is taken; a father has gone and the Savior alone can give consolation which soothes the broken hearts. Amidst life there is death and the death-angel has taken from our community the spirit of Hiram Barrick a highly respected, moral citizen and a devoted husband and father. Deceased was born Sept. 14, 1863, three miles northwest of Pleasanton, Kan., and died May 26, 1893 of consumption at his residence in Worland, Mo., after an illness of about one year. He was reared on his father's farm northwest of Pleasanton and in 1884 was married to Miss Cora Chance, they having resided in or near that vicinity about three years at which time they moved to Kansas City and remained only about one year then came to Worland which has been their home since that time. Their marriage was blessed with a family of four little girls but now the home circle is broken and at eventide when papa would have come to the home fireside the little ones can no more greet him with loving smiles and caresses. The remains were taken to the Fisher cemetery near Pleasanton last Monday for Interment, followed by a concourse of weeping friends. Aside from his wife and children he leaves a father, four brothers and one sister to mourn on account of the departed loved one. Though we can not comprehend why Jesus in his infinite wisdom calls from earth our friends we must submit to His allwise judgment and receive consolation from an ever present Savior in time of sorrow and trouble. The friends have the heart-felt sympathy of all who know them.
